“Son of the late Mr & Mrs Abbott, formerly of Ramsden’s Yard, Beastfair, Pontefract, is reported practically killed in action. He enlisted in Colonel Shaw’s battalion at the beginning of the War, went to France last January and on November 27th he died of wounds sustained that day. Formerly he worked at the Wheldale Colliery. A son of Mrs Russell (the aunt of Private Abbott with whom the deceased soldier formerly lived), namely Private A R Russell, also of the KOYLI, is at Clipstone Camp, having returned from France gassed and wounded some time ago.”

He is buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt.
