“WOUNDED IN NORMANDY
Private Claud Gilligan, the son of Mr and Mrs C W Gilligan, of Prospect House, Ferrybridge, is now in hospital in this country, after being wounded in Normandy. Private Gilligan landed with the invasion forces on ‘D’ Day and was wounded a week later. His parents have received a letter from him since his return to England, and on Saturday they learned that he is comfortable. It is the second occasion on which Private Gilligan has been wounded; the first was during the African campaign. Twenty one years of age, he has been in the Army for about 2 -½ years. Formerly he was with his father. A brother, Jack, is with the Merchant Navy attached to the invasion forces.”
