“MBE FOR E G L LYON
Captain (temporary Major) George Limnell Lyon MC, the eldest son of Mr H L Lyon of Hillam Hall, South Milford, has been awarded the MBE for gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East. He is in the Transport Section of the Royal Engineers. Before the war Major Lyon was a Director of Messrs John Harker Ltd of Knottingley, with whom he has been associated since leaving college. His knowledge of transport led to his commission in the Royal Engineers, and he served in France with the BEF. He won the Military Cross at Dunkirk and was mentioned in despatches.”
