“KILLED IN HOLLAND
Mrs J T Humphreys of Purbrook, Hants, has been notified that her husband Cpl J T Humphreys (33) was killed in Holland last November, after being previously reported missing. He lived with his sister Mrs F Thorpe, of 21 Spawd Bone Lane, Knottingley before his marriage in January last year. He was educated at Weeland Road School and worked at Bagley’s Glassworks before enlisting five years ago. Cpl Humphreys went to France on D-Day.”

John Thomas Humphrey was born on 14th February 1914 and he was baptised on 13th march 1912 at St Botolph’s Church, Knottingley. He was the son of Samuel Humphrey, a founder and Elizabeth (nee Haigh) who had married in the fourth quarter of 1892 and this was registered at Pontefract.
In the first quarter of 1944, registered at Portsmouth, John Thomas Humphrey married Madge E Stoat.
