The following letter was received when research was being done into the stories of the men listed on the Crofton memorial.
“I had four brothers who served in the army. Three were in the regular army – Harry, Norman and Malcolm and Ernest who was called up at the outbreak of war.
Harry and Norman left the army to be married before the start of the war but re-joined at the outbreak of war.
Malcolm contracted T.B. during service in India and was discharged home for treatment but later re-joined the army at the outbreak of war, but served only a short time before being discharged again owing to his chest condition.
Harry and Norman were both involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk and met for a short time, by chance, near Dunkirk. Harry was evacuated along with the other troops but Norman never returned and was presumed killed in action.”
The letter is unsigned but is obviously written by a member of the Teale family.
He is remembered with honour on the Dunkirk Memorial.
